What you’ll deliver with us

As our Head of Technology Strategy and Innovation you are responsible for shaping and driving the long-term technology strategy, accelerating innovation, and fostering a future-ready technology ecosystem. Reporting directly into the CTO, this role leads strategy development, technology foresight, and innovation investments while overseeing AP Labs (Australia Post’s applied innovation and R&D arm). You will play a critical part in identifying new opportunities, scaling emerging technologies, and ensuring the business remains competitive, adaptive, and customer-centric in a rapidly evolving landscape.
 

This is an incubator role for the future state of technology that can transform our business. This involves driving a focus on customer needs and improving the customer experience. Additionally, this role provides first point of technical escalation to lines of business during business strategy exercises. A key aspect of this position is applying a commercial focus on all work to ensure that the desired business outcomes are met. This will often require the individual to work with commercially sensitive information and data. Monitoring macro technology trends, competitor moves, and innovation signals is critical in this exciting position.
 

You’ll also   

  • Lead the development and continuous evolution of the multi-year technology strategy aligned with business priorities, industry trends, and emerging technology capabilities.
  • Partner with the CTO and executive leadership to ensure technology strategy supports growth, resilience, and transformation.
  • Spearhead strategic experiments, pilots, and partnerships to test emerging technologies and concepts, ensuring close collaboration between technology and business stakeholders.
  • Oversee the operations and development of AP Labs, the organization’s incubator for transformative technology, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Guide the development and testing of disruptive technologies and solutions within AP Labs, from ideation to prototype and deployment.
  • Oversee the design, governance, and execution of innovation programs and pipelines.
  • Identify and cultivate partnerships with technology leaders, research institutions, and innovation hubs.

About you  

We are looking for a creative individual who can provide commercial direction to senior stakeholders in relation to technology. Outstanding communication skills are vital when collaborating with external stakeholders including solution vendors and customers. Internally you will be comfortably working closely with business GM’s and the Enterprise Services leadership team to create solutions that are aligned with our strategic intent. These relationships will help you to identify new areas for commercial opportunity and work with stakeholders to translate this into value.

 

You’ll also need   

  • Senior leadership experience across Architecture, Engineering, Innovation or Strategy within complex environments
  • Background working in technology Startups, Consulting, ASX200 listed companies or Technology Incubators is advantageous
  • Proven experience leading technology strategy/innovation programs or creating roadmaps in collaboration with Enterprise Strategy
  • Expertise in AI with and understanding of global best practices, trends and disruptors in the market is highly regarded
  • Comfortable working with Agile teams and strong ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to educate the business on experimentation and how transform ideas into business value
  • Understanding of relevant compliance and regulatory frameworks around PII and Information Management
