The Opportunity

BlueScope Distribution is looking for a Business Development Manager to join the Export team based in Northgate - Brisbane. BlueScope Distribution is a single-source provider of product, processing and service solutions in steel and aluminium product. The business supports customers in a variety of industries and works with them to help deliver projects on time and to specification. BlueScope Distribution supports its customers by helping them find the freedom to do what they do best.

As the Business Development Manager, you will cover the regions of Papua New Guinea, the Pacific and South East Asia. You’ll travel to Papua New Guinea for approximately 2 weeks per quarter, with additional ad hoc travel to other targeted regions as required. You will be responsible for maintaining, identifying and developing new sales opportunities with key customers.

Working within a small, experienced team, you will have the opportunity to develop professionally, whilst contributing to the development of your team members and overall objectives within the Export team. When you’re not travelling, you’ll enjoy flexible working conditions, with 4 days based in the Northgate office, 1 day from home each week.

What Will You Do?

With your established sales background, you will:

• identify and develop new business opportunities in target market segments
• manage and grow new accounts, including supply proposals, tender submissions and the coordination of quotes
• network with key stakeholders and industry bodies to establish new business opportunities
• research and investigate key industry projects for future growth opportunities

More About You

• external sales experience, particularly b2b settings
• commercial acumen with an understanding of pricing/margin and its impact on profitability
• knowledge of the steel industry, export processes and international logistics
• adaptability and resilience when faced with dynamic environments
• self-motivated with the ability to work independently and within a team
• willingness and ability to travel regularly, often unaccompanied while maintaining a safety-first mindset
