Senior Process Engineer - Vertical furnace (Experienced)

Step into a career with ASM, where cutting edge technology meets collaborative culture.

For over 55 years ASM has been ahead of what’s next, at the forefront of innovation and what’s technologically possible. With more than 4,500 ASMers representing 70 nationalities, our people and our advanced semiconductor devices are playing a crucial role in trends such as 5G, cloud computing, AI, and autonomous driving.  But we’re more than just a tech company. We value diversity, inclusion and sustainability as we strive to make a positive impact on the world.  Our development programs help support your growth, shaping your future and pushing the boundaries of innovation to unleash potential.

We are offering you the opportunity to join our Process Application Development team in Leuven, Belgium, as a Senior Process Engineer. Our team is focused on developing advanced process technologies and new applications in a vertical batch reactor platform, enabling cutting-edge device architectures across logic, memory, analog, power, and MEMS segments. This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of thin film process innovation and to see your work translated into real-world technologies used in next-generation semiconductor devices.

What you will be working on

  • Driving process research, development, and optimization using semiconductor processing equipment, with focus on oxidation, annealing, curing, atomic layer deposition (ALD), and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) techniques for thin films.

  • Developing and validating new applications of thin film processes across multiple device domains, including logic, memory, analog, power, and MEMS.

  • Designing and conducting complex experiments to evaluate materials performance, reaction kinetics, and integration compatibility.

  • Performing data analysis and interpretation of advanced measurement output to inform process tuning and decision-making.

  • Collaborating with customers and product marketing to define process and application requirements, and executing successful demonstration projects.

  • Supporting product transfer and ramp-up through on-site knowledge sharing, documentation, and remote or on-site customer engagement (travel up to 25%).

  • Creating technical innovations, delivering creative solutions, and contributing to ASM’s IP portfolio through invention disclosures and patents.

What we are looking for

  • PhD in physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science, preferably with a thesis in semiconductor processing or related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in process development involving curing, oxidation, ALD, CVD, or other thin film deposition technologies — a must.

  • Strong expertise in thin film formation, modification, and integration with state-of-the-art device flows.

  • In-depth understanding of semiconductor device physics and materials behavior.

  • Skilled in advanced materials characterization techniques such as XPS, SIMS, RBS, AFM, XRR, XRD, TEM, SEM, and ellipsometry.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly.

What sets you apart

  • Familiarity with current and emerging integration flows in Logic, Memory, or More-than-Moore (MtM) markets.

  • Experience with electrical characterization techniques relevant to CMOS device structures.

  • Proven ability to independently manage and prioritize multiple development projects.

  • Clear understanding of how hardware design choices impact process results and materials performance.

  • Hands-on, adaptable mindset with a drive to solve challenges and deliver results in a collaborative environment.

Apply today to be part of what’s next.

We make the tech that enables the chips in devices which improve lives around the world. We do this with an eye to the future, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible through cutting-edge innovation, and driving the next wave of technological breakthroughs that shape how we live, work, and connect.
