Designer - Senior

Your Role

As a Gensler Senior Designer, you are responsible for helping to lead collaborative, creative teams and providing design leadership through all phases of client projects. Use your unique design perspective to bring new approaches to the design process and strategy, develop next-generation talent, and help our clients redesign what’s possible.  Your role is to combine creativity and technical knowledge with business skills and understanding to produce functionally beautiful spaces for clients while mentoring junior designers also to achieve inspiring, impactful design.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the creative efforts of design projects (under the supervision of the Design Director). 
  • Collaborate with Practice Area Leaders and colleagues to enhance Gensler's culture for design excellence, elevate design quality, and achieve recognition for clients and the firm. 
  • Utilize your experience with all phases of Design project deliverables, from Concept Design through Construction Administration, to realize a successful design concept. 
  • Work independently or with minor oversight to perform assignments, including programming client needs, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, space planning, and construction documentation. 
  • Produce mood, material, and design presentations independently or with minimal supervision. 
  • Oversee furniture plans, specifications, material selections, and schedules needed for construction documentation independently or with minimal supervision. 
  • Participate in client and consultant meetings. 
  • Effectively communicate design ideas by hand sketching and/or digital graphics. 
  • Mentor team members across all phases of Design project deliverables 
  • Utilize knowledge of furniture and technology, and custom furniture and lighting solutions, finishes, materials, color selections, and ID specifications. 
  • Independently create material palettes and inspiration image boards. 
  • Understand how key decisions at the project level contribute to larger client sustainability goals.
  • Understand the social and environmental impact of design solutions in your area of practice
  • Lead the development of impact assessments on projects together with a Design Resilience specialist.
  • Incorporate best practices in the design modelling process and coach other team members along the way.
  • Understand the benefits of our IP tools (GBlox, GFloorz, GPlanet) and how they impact the project processes.
  • Integrate DT workflows and tools from start to finish, together with the Design Director.

Your Qualifications  

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in architecture    
  • 10+ years of project experience in an architectural practice    
  • Demonstrate knowledge of construction and regulations and building and zoning codes.  
  • Significant, demonstrable experience in leading teams to deliver projects through all stages, including Construction Administration.  
  • Experience with Revit, Rhino, BIM 360, Bluebeam Revu, and MS Office    
  • Proven knowledge of construction codes and regulations.  
  • Experience in leading and mentoring multiple project teams in technical delivery concurrently.  
  • Flexibility to focus on concurrent projects in various stages of development.  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and the ability to lead and mentor.  
  • Must be able to maintain existing client relationships and build new ones through excellent delivery and technical guidance.  
  • Ability to handle difficult situations with tact, grace, and style.
