Operating in six main business pillars, including Port Reception Facilities, Emergency Response Services, Decontamination Services, Renewable Energy, Alternative Fuel Production from Waste, and Technology, we are committed to sustainability, innovation, and operational excellence.

As part of our growing operations, we are looking for a highly motivated Technical Director to join our team in Athens. This role is pivotal in driving innovation, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering technical excellence in line with national and EU standards.

Role Overview:

The Technical Director holds overarching responsibility for the strategic leadership, development, and execution of all technical, engineering, and tendering operations of the company, focusing on both hazardous and non-hazardous waste management projects. This role is pivotal in driving innovation, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering technical excellence in line with national and EU standards.

The Technical Director will guide multidisciplinary teams across design, planning, tendering, construction, and commissioning activities, aligning technical deliverables with commercial objectives and sustainability targets.

Key Responsibilities:

1.       Strategic Leadership & Direction

  • Define and lead the company’s technical vision and engineering roadmap in alignment with its waste management strategy.
  • Drive innovation in waste treatment technologies, plant optimization, and circular economy solutions.
  • Advise the executive team on technical risk, compliance, investment in infrastructure, and strategic partnerships.

2.       Tendering & Business Development

  • Oversee all public and private sector tenders, ensuring technically sound and commercially competitive submissions.
  • Supervise bid/no-bid decisions, bid strategy, and value engineering efforts in coordination with finance and commercial teams.
  • Establish and maintain a high-performance tendering unit focused on cost-efficiency and regulatory compliance.

3.       Engineering & Project Delivery

  • Lead the design, review, and execution of engineering plans for infrastructure projects: waste transfer stations, treatment plants, landfills, and environmental restoration sites.
  • Ensure compliance with Greek and EU technical standards, including environmental permits, construction codes, and hazardous materials handling.
  • Oversee CAPEX project lifecycles—from feasibility and permitting to construction, commissioning, and handover.

4.       Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure alignment with all relevant legislation including Greek environmental law (e.g., Law 4819/2021), EU Waste Framework Directive, and ADR regulations for hazardous waste transport.
  • Enforce ISO 14001, ISO 9001, and ISO 45001 standards across all technical operations.
  • Lead internal audits, inspections, and third-party certifications.

5.       Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Build, mentor, and oversee a cross-functional technical team across Athens and satellite sites.
  • Act as the technical liaison with government and regulatory authorities, municipalities, and private sector clients.
  • Represent the company in industry conferences, technical committees, and working groups.

6.       Digitalization & Innovation

  • Promote digital tools for asset monitoring, project controls, and automated reporting.
  • Explore emerging technologies such as waste-to-energy, anaerobic digestion, and AI-driven routing systems.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 15+ years of technical and engineering experience, with at least 8 years in a leadership position within the waste management, environmental services, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong background in design-build projects, construction supervision, and infrastructure commissioning.
  • Proven track record in tender leadership for large-scale public and EU-funded projects.
  • Deep knowledge of Greek and EU environmental law, public procurement processes, and waste management policies.
  • Professional Engineering License (TEE/TCG registration) highly desirable.
  • Fluency in Greek and English (both written and verbal) is required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Ability to align technical execution with long-term business goals and sector trends.
  • Expertise in national and European legislation relevant to waste and environmental management.
  • Ability to inspire technical teams and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.
  • Passion for continuous improvement, sustainability, and process optimization.
  • Understanding of project financing, budgeting, and cost control.
  • Skilled in managing technical risks, emergencies, and operational contingencies.
  • Familiarity with PM tools (MS Project).
