Senior Quality Inspector

Job Overview:

Position is based in Malaysia to attend stage-wise and final inspection at vendor facility. Shall be able to represent McDermott follow the McDermott work culture and values during inspections. Shall have EPC Contractor’s Solution-Orientated approach to address the issues raised during inspections. Shall be able to represent McDermott and coordinate with Vendor as well as all involved Inspection parties from COMPANY and IVS. Shall be able to give confident about the inspections performed and clearances given.  

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Attend Pre-Inspection Meeting and verify the approval status of Key documents before start of fabrication
  • Ensuring compliance to Inspection and Test Plan requirements and other QA/QC documentation 
  • Ensure the vendor/sub-vendor are using the latest revised drawings and documents by performing routine checks on their documents against the drawing/document register
  • Witnessed and performed inspection at vendor premises base on Purchase order and Client requirement
  • Material inspection - (MTC/Material Traceability Records review, NACE & Visual/Dimension inspection)
  • Alloy verification & chemical analysis (PMI)
  • In Process Inspections – Installation of Electrical Equipment’s, Instrument’s, Assembly, Cabling/Wiring, Cable Glanding and Termination, Tube Fitting Installations etc.
  • In-Process Inspection – Installation of Certified Equipment’s/Instruments (ATEX/IECEx) are in compliance with Project Specification/Hazardous Area Classification Requirements and also as per IEC60079
  • Ensure working personnel from vendor for Ex Installation and Ex Inspection complies with competency requirements as per IEC 60079
  • Verify Earthing/Grounding Requirements for Equipment’s, Instruments and Skids 
  • Witness of Type tests, Routine tests and Performance tests for Electrical Equipment’s as per IEC and Project Specifications (Cables, Motor, Transformer, Switchgears, Alternator etc.)
  • Witness the final installation tests such as Cable Continuity and Insulation Resistance Test, Earth Resistance Test, Tubing Leak Test, Pressure Test, Hydrostatic/Hydro Test etc.
  • Witness Instruments Functional Test/Calibration, Hydrostatic/Pressure Test
  • Ensure the vendor follows the approved sub-vendor/sub-supplier list
  • Witness Mechanical Completion of Skids 
  • Witness and/or Perform Ex Inspection (Grade: Detailed) as per IEC 60079 Part 14 and Part 17
  • Verification of Ex Register and Ex Certificates against the equipment’s/Instruments
  • Witness Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) / System Integration Test (SIT) / Integrated Factory Acceptance Test (I-FAT)
  • Review of Certificates such as Calibration, SIL, ATEX/IECEx etc.
  • Witness single unit test such as Hydrostatic Test and Gas Test of principle component
  • Review and endorsed manufacturing report (QC Report) such as MTR, dimensional, NDT, painting, hydro static and gas test report etc
  • Report non-conformities and follow up for Corrective action
  • Document review for Manufacturing Record Book compilation
  • Perform Pre-Shipment inspection/ Final Factory Inspection prior to equipment release
  • Prepare Flash Report, Inspection Report (IR) and Inspection Release Note (IRN)

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • High school Diploma or Bachelor degree or equivalent in Electrical/Instrumentation
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Vendor inspection activities (5 years minimum in Oil and Gas) 
  • Min. 3 Yrs of Experience on Ex Inspection and shall be able to perform Ex Inspection (Grade: Detailed) independently as per IEC 60079 Part 14 and Part 17
  • Shall have valid Hazardous Area Equipment Inspection and Maintenance Certificate such as IECEx or CompEx or Equivalent (Min. IECEx Ex 001, 007 & 008 or CompEx 01 to 04) 
  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Certificate (recommended) 

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • Must be familiar with and demonstrated thorough knowledge of work related engineering codes and standards for Offshore Projects such as National Electric Code/NFPA 70, IEC or equivalent standards
  • Must be familiar with Hazardous Area Equipment Standards IEC 60079 (All Parts), API RP 505, API RP 14FZ, ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU etc.
  • Knowledge in ICSS System
  • Knowledge of ISO standards (ISO 9001 & 29001) and QMS practices 
  • Good communication skills & experience in working with multinational teams
  • Good computer & presentation skills (e.g., MS Office)
