Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Mata Ahupae - Postgraduate Administrator to join Te Kura Mātai Pūkaha, Pūrorohiko - School of Engineering and Computer Science on a permanent, full-time contract.

Key responsibilities:

  • To support the effective coordination and delivery of postgraduate administration for the School of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) and the School of Mathematics and Statistics (SMS).
  • To liaise with the Faculty of Graduate Research and Academic supervisors to manage and progress postgraduate applications including those with collaborative funding, liaising with Research Office where required.
  • To deal with queries from applicants, current postgraduate students, Academic Supervisors’ and Faculty of Graduate Research and to be proactive in maintaining contact with applicants prior to the commencement of their studies.
  • To develop and maintain excellent working relationships with staff and students in the Faculty of Science and Engineering

Ō pūmanawa - About you

You will be a highly motivated, student-focused individual who can take the initiative, provide excellent administration and work collaboratively with others. To excel in this role, you will have excellent communication skills, both written and oral to communicate with our large number of national and international postgraduate students. You will have strong attention to details, self-management skills and enjoy daily interaction with staff and students. This role is busy yet extremely rewarding for the individual with the right mindset. The administration team across our two schools work closely so we are looking for someone who not only is task-driven but who is also friendly and works well in a team.

Key requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written including a consistently high level of clarity and accuracy evident in all written material produced.
  • Competent use of Office 365 Apps, particularly - MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook calendar management, PowerPoint (or similar), SharePoint, Teams etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure in order to manage competing and changing priorities and establishing and achieving deadlines.
  • Outstanding people and communication skills including the ability to adjust to different audiences.
