Position Summary:

Sonic’s Aerial Construction Lineman I is responsible for performing installation and maintenance of aerial plant fiber, pole attachments, anchors and down guy installation.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

The Aerial Construction Lineman I is a full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt/hourly position. Typical schedule is Monday through Friday 6am-4pm. Overtime work should be expected for this position.

 

Travel:

Travel is expected for this position.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Aerial Lineman I position does have some supervisory responsibilities in looking out for the safety of the crew and making decisions in the absence of the Foreman.

The functions listed below are a portion of what is required for this position. The job functions will change along with location and may expand at any time. Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor on construction projects; perform manual work.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build aerial plant to Sonic specifications to include: framing poles, placing new strand, lashing new cable to bare strand, over lashing cable to existing strand and cable. 
  • Installing anchors and down guys, snowshoes, placing fiber, grounding & bonding of strand, placement of riser guards, trimming trees, pulling of cable/fiber in aerial and underground applications.
  • Installing pole mounted cabinets, placing ground rods and installing VGR’s on poles, swapping lashers on poles either from a bucket truck or from hooks or ladders.
  • Dismantles, moves, and removes aerial hardware and attachments.
  • Connects wires and cables to terminals and attaches/detaches various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, building, or poles.
  • Repairs and maintenance of major fiber systems and structures such as broken lashing, replacing or re-sagging aerial strand, pole transfers, down-guys, aerial to underground conversion, make ready, VGR’s and all grounding and bonding functions as per NESC, & GO95.
  • Deploying and removing various traffic control devices that protect the work area while on a street or roadway.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to read, interpret and build per MakeReady, cable maps, and blueprints.
  • Availability to respond and restore services for emergency calls, responsible for being on the job at short notice to repair damaged fiber until service is restored.
  • The ability to work nights and weekends as required.
  • Participate, adhere to and support all safety related policies, processes and programs.
  • Perform all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines (includes compliance with requirements outlined in applicable regulations such as: OSHA, FCC, NESC and GO95, etc.).
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow company policies and procedures related to safety, and attend all scheduled safety meetings, as well as competent person and OSHA training.
  • Must be able to climb utility poles using gaffs and either a BuckSqueeze or Cynch-Loc belt
  • Ability to lift 100 pounds, walk and stand for long periods of time and preform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • A clean DMV record and background check is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is consistently required to use appropriate hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, bend, assemble and erect all components necessary for lifting, moving and installing plant materials in accordance with the applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.

 

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Pay Scale:

Min:  $23/hour     Max $29/hour
