As a Principal Data Warehouse Engineer, you will report directly to the Chapter Lead of Data Engineering and be one of the senior leaders within the Chapter – a specialized group of data engineers within our central Data Insights & AI organization. The Chapter’s mission is to establish standards and processes that enhance operational efficiency and deliver greater impact by creating guidelines and promoting best practices in data engineering to build our future data warehouse.
This role focuses on designing and building cutting-edge data engineering solutions alongside high-level architectural work.
Define and implement technical standards for Data Engineering and Data Warehouse development, including frameworks (e.g., DBT, SodaSQL), orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow), GIT release management and branching strategies or CI/CD pipelines.
Establish and refine guidelines for data transformation, ensuring efficient workflows for all Data Excellence Teams.
Serve as a primary expert in engineering tools and frameworks, ensuring consistent usage aligned with data landsacpe architecture.
Collaborate with the Data Platform Team to translate engineering requirements into platform capabilities and technical improvements.
Collaborate with the Data Governance Team to establish and fulfill data governance related requirements and guidelines.
Define best practices for cloud-based solutions on Databricks, focusing on architectural patterns and performance optimization, in combination with our framework DBT.
Design and implement data quality frameworks, monitoring processes, and governance guidelines.
Provide hands-on technical guidance and mentorship to Data Engineers and Excellence Leads.
You have at least 5 years of experience as a Data Engineer, demonstrating significant impact at a senior engineering level.
You bring a clear, audience-sensitive communication style to both your verbal and written work.
You have extensive experience with the following technologies: Databricks, DBT, Airflow, GIT, nice to have: AWS, Snowflake, Collibra
You proactively drive projects, process and technical improvements.
You can quickly assess the severity and impact of bugs and prioritize them accordingly.
You ensure high-quality operational artifacts (e.g., data engineering playbooks) and apply the best architecture or engineering design practices.
You understand system requirements (performance, data, feature ownership) and translate them into technical designs, carefully analyzing trade-offs.
