Job Description

What you’ll do at OhioMHAS:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Financial Associate to join our team. Under general supervision, this role performs a variety of customer service and financial duties that support patient billing, revenue processing, and financial assistance coordination. The ideal candidate will have experience in healthcare billing systems, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to accuracy and service excellence.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Customer Service & Patient Support: Respond to inbound calls from patients and customers to handle billing and general inquiries.Collect and review documentation from patients to support financial assistance and billing processes. Assist patients in completing financial assistance applications and evaluate eligibility using Epic. Review and analyze patient financial statements to apply appropriate discounts. Follow up on returned patient billing statements by researching updated addresses and making corrections in Epic. Contact patients to obtain updated insurance information to ensure accurate and timely billing.
  •    Billing & Revenue Processing: Post payments in the medical billing system (Epic). Log and manage patient documents in the agency’s OnBase record system. Open and sort mail; log agency revenue and prepare deposits in OAKS. Manage assigned work queues in Epic related to patient billing and financial assistance. Assist with patient claim corrections during peak times or high-volume periods. Perform research through insurance portals (Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurers) and claims clearinghouses to address inquiries and resolve claim issues.
  •    Administrative & Project Support: Help track and report patient account adjustments and other billing activities. Perform general accounts receivable tasks as needed to support the agency’s revenue cycle. Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by supervisors and managers. Provide training and support to co-workers and regional healthcare treatment centers during process or system changes.

This is an hourly position covered by the OCSEA/AFSCME bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of 28 on the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are 1st shift (8:00am to 5:00pm). This position is located within our Office of Financial Management, headquartered at the James Rhodes State Office Tower, 30 East Broad Street, 11th floor, Columbus, Ohio 43215.

Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

Qualifications

Position Qualifications

18 mos. exp. or 18 mos. trg. in accounting &/or finance to include a basic level of experience in spreadsheet software. 

-Or completion of high school technical program in accounting; 6 mos. exp. or 6 mos. trg. in accounting or finance to include a basic level of experience in spreadsheet software.

-Or completion of associate core program in business administration, accounting, finance or related field.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
