Work Schedule

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Air Permits Division.

This position is a member of our Air Permits Division. 

 

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING...

  • Participate and assist in complex projects involving the planning and development of air permitting rules, policy, and permits such as standard permits, general operating permits, and state plans.
  • Advise and consult with management and staff in technical matters and program functions related to the implementation of federal and state permitting programs, air permitting policy and regulations, technical reviews, business programs, and administrative and technical guidelines.
  • Assist in developing or evaluating moderately technical permit support procedures and techniques for use by agency staff, applicants, consultants, and the public; and assists in providing guidance, direction, and training as required.
  • Participate on agency teams and workgroups as directed; communicates the applicability of federal and state requirements related to division processes and programs to Commissioners, executive management, legislators, and public and industry groups, as needed. Participate at hearings and meetings; and prepare and deliver presentations as necessary.

 

 

Qualifications

 

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience coordinating rule projects and/or standard/general operating permit projects; and/or serving on a rule and/or standard/general operating permit project team
  • Experience working with and/or interpreting air statutes, rules, policies, or procedures, particularly air permitting
  • Experience in arranging/providing support to legislators and/or the legislative process
  • Experience planning, leading and overseeing complex team projects

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, basic science, mathematics, environmental science, computer science or a related field, plus two years of full-time experience in performing engineering, technical, or related assignments.

OR

  • A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the specified fields plus one year of full-time experience in performing engineering, technical, or related assignments.

Substitute Qualifications

  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination may be substituted for six months of the required experience.
  • One year of full-time experience in performing engineering, technical, or related assignments may be substituted for each year of the required education.

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Engineering Specialist III state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Engineering Specialist III series.
