111 West 57th Street

111 West 57th Street combines a new slender residential tower with historic Steinway Hall. The contrast between its terracotta-and-bronze exterior and the retained landmark gives the profile a specific architectural subject beyond a generic skyline address. SHoP Architects designed the residential tower, with interiors by Studio Sofield. Full-floor residences sit above the retained Steinway Hall component. Club 111 combines shared dining, meeting and library spaces with staffed services; the separate sports club provides indoor exercise and recreation.

8 Cumberland combines a residential tower with a restored-looking brick podium at the edge of Yorkville. The contrast between the historic streetscape and new apartments gives the project a clear identity within central Toronto. Phantom describes a 51-storey building.
